The HyperDrive is a Thunderbolt 3 USB-C Hub that is made specifically for the 2016 MacBook Pro. The hub connects to the MacBook Pro via twin Thunderbolt 3 USB-C ports, giving it maximum bandwidth as well as a transfer speed of 50Gb/s that allows you to utilise all of the ports on the hub simultaneously.
As for port availability, the HyperDrive sports a HDMI video output, a Thunderbolt 3 port, a standard USB-C port, two USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports, a SD card slot and a MicroSD card slot.
For those who are wondering about charging their MacBook Pros through the HyperDrive, its Thunderbolt 3 port supports up to 100W of power delivery. This allows you to charge your MacBook Pro at full speed through the hub.
Sanho Corporation’s HyperDrive is currently being crowdfunded on Kickstarter. At the time of writing, the project has managed to raise USD710,928 out of its USD100,000 target with 21 days left to go. If you’re looking to get a HyperDrive of your own, you’ll need to pledge at least USD69 to get one.
Do note however, that HyperDrive units are strictly limited, so you’ll need to pledge to the project ASAP if you want to secure your unit.
